Eternal Shapes. 24-karat gilded polystyrene 12.0 x 12.0 x 12.0cm, Unique, Dresden. 2020
We are all familiar with the objects of the divine, those golden treasures, ornate artistic creations, golden goblets, chalices, crowns, rings, shields, jewelry, divine images and caskets. Decorated with precious stones, engravings, embossings and various goldsmithing techniques, they remain faithful to the basic geometric forms of an almost mystical geometry that unites all cultures and epochs by opening the sphere of the divine to them.
This universal formal language of gold reveals the creative relationships between cultural areas and epochal contexts in relation to a shared sense of sublimity, beauty, elegance and transcendence.
The surprising artistic discovery was that these very forms can be found in simple polystyrene packaging.
The series „Eternal Shapes“ shows a variety of golden shapes and stylistic details through the gilding of the packaging. They belong to different periods of cultural history and different cultures.
